Certified Green Built Environment Specialist (CGBES)™
The Certified Green Built Environment Specialist (CGBES) certification program is a comprehensive and forward-thinking credential designed to equip professionals with the expertise needed to lead sustainable building and environmental design initiatives. As the world faces urgent climate and resource challenges, green construction and sustainable development are no longer optional—they are foundational to responsible urbanization, energy conservation, and regulatory compliance. The CGBES program empowers participants with knowledge in green building principles, environmental compliance, renewable integration, and lifecycle impact analysis, ensuring they can design, build, and maintain structures that promote environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability.
The built environment contributes significantly to global carbon emissions, resource consumption, and waste generation. This certification addresses these challenges by providing a deep dive into the strategies, technologies, and frameworks that reduce environmental impact while maximizing building performance. Participants will explore cutting-edge green technologies, gain a working knowledge of building codes and sustainability standards, and learn to apply lifecycle thinking to projects. The CGBES program prepares professionals to transform construction practices and building operations by integrating sustainability at every stage—from concept and planning to execution and post-occupancy assessment.
Certification Program Objectives:
Upon completing the Certified Green Built Environment Specialist (CGBES) program, participants will be able to:
- Understand Sustainable Design Principles: Gain expertise in designing buildings that optimize environmental performance, occupant health, and resource efficiency.
- Apply Energy-Efficient Technologies: Learn to identify and implement systems and materials that reduce energy demand and support long-term energy conservation.
- Navigate Environmental Certifications: Understand global certification systems such as LEED, WELL, BREEAM, and EDGE, and apply them effectively within projects.
- Interpret Green Building Codes and Policies: Develop working knowledge of national and international regulations and how they shape sustainable building practices.
- Integrate Renewable Energy Systems: Learn how to plan and incorporate renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, and geothermal into green building projects.
- Conduct Lifecycle and Impact Analysis: Perform lifecycle assessments (LCA) to measure the environmental impact of building materials, energy use, and system operations.
Certification Eligibility Criteria:
To apply for certification from The American Institute of Business and Management (AIBM) and its allied institutions, candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution
And/or
- 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience in the related professional field.
Note: Applicants who do not hold a Bachelor’s degree but possess exceptional professional experience and hold significant positions within their organizations in a relevant field may also be considered for certification on a case-by-case basis, subject to the approval of the AIBM evaluation committee.
Certifying Examination:
- To be certified as CGBES, student should take up a 1.5 hours online exam conducted by AICM.
- The qualifying exam would consist of 50 multiple choice questions, testing core certification modules.
- Professionals with relevant experience and other qualifying criteria may be exempted from the examination.
Certification Modules:
- Module 1: Sustainable Building Design and Principles
- Module 2: Energy-Efficient Technologies and Systems
- Module 3: Environmental Certifications and Compliance
