Certified Transport Management Professional (CTMP)
3 Certificates in Transport Management
1. Transportation Planning
Functional Area
Supply Chain Planning
Proficiency
Intermediate
Abstract:
This course reviews the transportation planning component of the supply chain planning process. It covers demand and capacity planning within transportation, as well as the metrics to measure the processes by.
Description:
The goal of transportation planning is to ensure that sufficient capacity exists to deliver goods at the lowest possible cost for a given level of service. This course explains how transportation planning achieves this goal by, 1) ensuring transportation mode availability, 2) balancing the space requirements of holding inventory at each delivery location, and 3) meeting sales force commitments to customers.
Certification Program Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
• Identify the purpose, objectives, and benefits of transportation planning
• Describe the different components of transportation planning, the business problems it solves, and the key capabilities it offers
• Identify key inputs, constraints, and other considerations for the components of transportation planning
• Describe the measurements and metrics for transportation planning
Agenda:
The following topics are included in this course:
• Introduction to transportation planning
• Transportation demand planning
• Transportation capacity planning
• Transportation planning metrics and measurements
2. Transportation Routing and Scheduling
Functional Area
Transportation
Proficiency
Intermediate
Abstract:
This course provides participants with the proper procedures and guidelines for effectively and efficiently performing transportation routing and scheduling. It discusses the importance and benefits of routing and scheduling to transportation departments, and to companies overall. The course also helps participants to understand routing and scheduling problems by highlighting the main problem characteristics and restrictions, as well as the primary principles of effective routing and scheduling.
Description:
Effective transportation routing and scheduling can have a huge impact on customer satisfaction, supply chain performance, and organizational success. This Online Self-Study explains how managers can best get raw materials, production parts, and finished goods to their intended destination efficiently and effectively. The course discusses three major aspects of routing and scheduling: *Understanding routing and scheduling problems *Solving routing and scheduling problems *Using computers in routing and scheduling The course also includes a short case study and several activities in which users can apply routing and scheduling concepts.
Certification Program Objectives:
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Delineate routing activities from scheduling activities, identify relevant characteristics and restrictions of each activity type, and use this information to diagnose routing and scheduling problems
• Describe key routing and scheduling principles, best practices, and solution techniques
• Develop appropriate responses when formulating improvement plans
• Describe project implementation plans and software tools that are used to solve complex routing and scheduling problems
• Explain the solution development process and identify the leading solutions
Agenda:
The following topics are included in this course:
• Types of routing and scheduling activities that must be planned and managed
• Factors that influence or restrict how routing and scheduling problems can be addressed Categories of common routing and scheduling problems and their characteristics
• Widely accepted principles for developing effective routes and schedules
• Main categories of routing and scheduling solution techniques used to address various problems General framework for navigating routing and scheduling problems and developing solutions Appropriate uses and benefits of routing and scheduling software
• Types and structure of software tools
• Choosing a routing and scheduling software package
3. Transportation Scorecarding/Carrier Evaluation
Functional Area
Transportation
Proficiency
Intermediate
Abstract:
This course addresses the strategic tools that can be used to manage the area of transportation scorecarding and carrier evaluation. The course includes a general process/methodology for conducting a scorecarding activity.
Description:
Transportation performance scorecarding is the process by which companies develop and maintain key reports on the cost and quality of the services rendered by their external carrier base. These key reports, called carrier scorecards, provide an ongoing evaluation of a transportation provider’s ability to meet key customer requirements (e.g., damage rates, on-time delivery percentages, billing accuracy, etc.). This course explains the transportation scorecarding process, describes how to start a scorecarding program, and highlights the ways you should use the results of scorecarding to improve transportation carrier performance. The value created by the course is that, beyond introducing a process and methodology, it helps identify what is important with respect to the topic.
Certification Program Objectives:
At the end of this course participants should be able to:
• Understand the role of carrier rating and scorecarding in transportation
• Develop a scorecarding program
• Implement the scorecarding results into practice
Agenda:
Course topics are:
• Introduction
• Background and Benefits of Scorecarding
• Developing a Scorecarding Program
• Using Scorecarding Results
• Conclusion
Certifying Examination:
